adding functionality

Hi, on and off I've been messing around with PhpAlbum for the past half year, adding some functionality on a do-able level. Now, I'm interested in doing this the right way, using CVS/SVN and my pet-development GUI PDT. Understanding that this isn't HowToForge I'm still hoping on some advice regarding templates, the key 'TABdb'-file -- obfuscating, main, setup et al. Any suggestions?
